Theoretical Rationale

Our theoretical rationale incorporates an authoritative style of teaching where we have high expectations of our students. We provide our students with challenges, support, and structure in their lives. As educators we are firm but caring; we explain the reasons for rules and are consistent with implementation of them. This will provide the students with sense of physical and emotional safety and a cooperative learning environment.

At the start of the academic year the students will be active participants in the construction of classroom procedures. These rules will be displayed in the classroom and accepted by both teacher and students. Our rules and procedures will be reinforced through modeling and a student signed contract. This will create a democratic society within the classroom that will provide the students with a sense of community and belonging.
